Am I eligible?
Whether your specific flight qualifies under EU 261.
How late does my flight have to be?
Three hours or more at your final destination, whatever the distance.
How far back can I claim?
In most countries we operate in, three years. Some national laws allow longer. Because checking is free, it's always worth submitting an older flight rather than assuming it has expired.
I flew with a low-cost airline on a cheap ticket. Does that matter?
Not at all. The regulation ignores the fare you paid. Ryanair and Wizz Air passengers are entitled to exactly the same €250 to €600 as anyone on a flag carrier.
What if the airline blames the weather?
Weather is a valid defence only if it genuinely made your specific flight unsafe. We check historical weather and air traffic data for that airport and time slot, and a surprising number of these claims turn out to be perfectly winnable.
Does my connecting flight count?
Yes. What matters is how late you reached your final destination on a single booking. If a delayed first leg made you miss your connection and you arrived three or more hours late, you can claim — even if the delayed leg was short.
Which flights are covered?
Any flight departing from an airport in the EU, the UK, Iceland, Norway or Switzerland, plus flights into those countries if the airline is based in Europe. Your nationality and where you live don't matter.
The airline already rejected my claim. Can you still help?
Yes. Send us the airline's reply along with your flight details. A rejection is often where our work starts, not where it ends.
Delays, cancellations and overbooking
What each type of disruption entitles you to.
My flight was cancelled. Am I owed compensation?
Usually, if the airline told you less than 14 days before departure and the replacement flight didn't get you there close to the original times. You're owed the refund or rebooking and the compensation — not one or the other.
I was denied boarding because the flight was overbooked. What now?
If you checked in on time with valid travel documents, you're owed compensation straight away, plus a refund or an alternative flight. Don't accept a voucher instead of cash unless you genuinely want one.
Does a strike count as an extraordinary circumstance?
A strike by the airline's own staff generally doesn't, so you can claim. Strikes by air traffic control or airport staff usually do count as extraordinary, and the airline is off the hook.
What does the airline have to give me while I wait?
Meals and refreshments in proportion to the wait, two phone calls or emails, and a hotel with transfers if you're stuck overnight. This duty of care applies even when no compensation is due, so keep every receipt.
I accepted a voucher from the airline. Can I still claim?
Often, yes — as long as you didn't sign anything that explicitly settles all claims. Send us what you signed or received and we'll tell you where you stand.
How the claim works
What happens after you press submit.
What do I actually have to do?
Fill in the flight details, sign the authorisation with your finger or mouse, and that's it. Everything after that is our job.
Why do you need a power of attorney?
Airlines will only negotiate with the passenger or an authorised representative. The digital authorisation lets us claim in your name. It covers this claim only and you can withdraw it at any time.
Can I claim for my family or colleagues?
Yes. Add every passenger from the booking in the same form. Each one needs to sign their own authorisation, and each receives their own compensation.
How do I know what's happening with my claim?
You get an email at every stage and can check the current status in your dashboard whenever you like. Nothing moves without you being told.
How long does the whole process take?
Most airlines pay within two to four months. If they refuse and we go to court, it can take longer depending on the country. You don't need to do anything in the meantime.
Can I withdraw my claim?
Yes. Just email us before the airline pays. Withdrawing costs nothing unless legal action has already started — the details are in our Terms.
Documents and your data
What we need from you and how we protect it.
What documents do I need?
Your booking reference is usually enough to start. A boarding pass, booking confirmation or a photo of your ID speeds things up, but we can often find the details ourselves.
I've lost my boarding pass. Can I still claim?
Yes. A booking confirmation, the e-ticket email or a bank statement showing the purchase usually does the job. Tell us what you have and we'll work with it.
Why do you ask for my ID?
Some airlines and courts require proof of identity before they pay, and it protects you from anyone claiming in your name. We use it for your claim only.
How do you protect my personal data?
We process your data under the GDPR and share it only with those who need it to move your claim forward — the airline, our legal partners and payment providers. You can request a copy or deletion at any time.
Fees and payment
What we charge and when you get paid.
What exactly does SkyPaid cost?
29% of the compensation we recover, deducted from the payout. If we recover nothing, you pay nothing. In the rare case that legal action is needed, a separate fee applies — full details are on our Fees page.
Are there any upfront or hidden charges?
None. No registration fee, no admin fee, no charge for withdrawing your claim. Court costs and lawyers are paid by us, win or lose.
How and when do I receive the money?
By bank transfer to the account you nominate, usually within three to five working days of the airline paying us. We'll email you the moment the funds arrive.
What currency will I be paid in?
Compensation is set in euro. We can transfer in euro or convert to your local currency at the interbank rate on the day of transfer, whichever suits you.
Is VAT included in the fee?
Yes. All our fees already include VAT, so nothing is added on top.
Who pays if the case goes to court?
We do. Court fees and lawyers are on us, and if we lose, you owe nothing. You only pay if we win — full details are on our Fees page.
