Claiming from TUI Airways: what to know
TUI Airways is the UK's largest holiday airline, flying from airports such as Manchester, Gatwick and Birmingham to Europe, North Africa, the Caribbean and Florida. As a UK carrier, its flights from or to the UK fall under UK 261, with compensation of £220 to £520 per passenger; flights departing the EU are covered by EU 261.
Before you claim
- 01
Booked a package holiday? You can still claim: delay compensation is owed by the airline, not the tour operator, on top of any package refund.
- 02
Long-haul flights to Mexico, the Caribbean or Florida are over 3,500 km, so an arrival delay of 4 hours or more can mean £520 per passenger.
- 03
Keep your booking confirmation from TUI or your travel agent: the booking reference is all we need to find your flight.

Common pushback
What TUI Airways may say — and what the law says
A rejection is where most claims start, not where they end. These are the replies we challenge most often.
“It was a technical problem.”
Faults found during normal operation are part of running an airline. Courts rarely accept them as extraordinary circumstances.
“The weather was bad.”
Only weather that made your specific flight unsafe counts. We check the claim against meteorological and airport records.
“The aircraft arrived late from its previous flight.”
A knock-on delay only excuses the airline if the original cause was itself extraordinary — and the airline has to prove it.
“Our crew went on strike.”
A strike by the airline's own staff is within its control. The European Court of Justice has ruled it does not exempt the carrier.
“We already gave you meal vouchers.”
Meals, hotels and rebooking are care, not compensation. Accepting them never waives your right to be paid.

FAQ
TUI Airways compensation questions
Still unsure? Check your flight for free — it takes two minutes and commits you to nothing.
How much compensation can I get from TUI Airways?
Between €250 and €600 per passenger, depending on flight distance. Delays must be three hours or more at arrival, and cancellations must be announced less than 14 days before departure. What you paid for the ticket makes no difference.
Can I claim from TUI Airways myself?
Yes, filing with TUI Airways directly is free. Many passengers come to us because first claims are often rejected or ignored — we handle the follow-up, the regulator and court if needed, and only charge if you get paid.
How far back can I claim against TUI Airways?
It depends on the country where the claim is filed. Limitation periods are set nationally and range from about one year to six years, so flights from the last few years are often still claimable. Check yours for free.
TUI Airways rebooked me or gave me vouchers. Can I still claim?
Usually, yes. Rebooking, meals and hotel rooms are duties of care and don't replace compensation. Only an agreement where you explicitly gave up your compensation would change that.
How long does TUI Airways take to pay?
Straightforward claims are often settled within a few weeks to a few months. If TUI Airways refuses and the claim goes to a regulator or court, it can take longer. We keep you updated at every step.
What if TUI Airways blames extraordinary circumstances?
Ask for specifics. Severe weather, air traffic control restrictions and security threats can be extraordinary, but technical faults and strikes by the airline's own staff usually aren't. We check the explanation against independent data before accepting it.
